Looking for a great way in which to build your portfolio, gain experience, and meet fabulous connections? Our ATL Events Group experts suggest that you volunteer. Of course we know that giving back should be tied to selfless support of a cause that is near to your heart. However, our ATL Events Group professionals state there is no reason you can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Start by finding an organization that is meaningful to you—something that you’re passionate about. After all, you’re giving of your time and talent, so you want to feel motivated. Next, consider what your talents are and how you might apply them to help the charity meet their goals. Our ATL Events Group executives suggest beginning with some simple tasks. As you become more engaged and earn the trust of the leadership, let them know what skills you have that you recognize a need for in their organization. For example, perhaps they’re strapped for help marketing an upcoming event. Volunteer to solicit donations, run the social media outreach, or provide graphic design work for the program. The other benefit of volunteering is networking. You’ll have ample opportunity to develop relationships with other individuals who share your passion for these particular philanthropic activities. This could advance to job connections, especially if they see your work. Doing good is a way of paying forward the generosity you’ve received. It will even circle back to you.
